On June 8, 1989, in a poop game, the pirates took a 10 run lead over the Phillies in the 1st after almost batting around twice. This prompted pirates broadcaster, Jim Rooker, to jokingly say:
And well they did, as not only did the Phillies come back from a 10 run deficit, they ended up winning by 4. Steve Jeltz hit two of his four home runs on the season that night, which gave the indication that it wasn’t going to be a great night for the Pirates in the end.
Rooker would be a man of his word, as in October he would walk over 327 miles from Philly to Pittsburgh starting on October 5th and lasting until October 17th, raising thousands of dollars for a children’s hospital in the end. Rooker said afterwards, "I'm OK from the ankles up, but from the ankles down I feel like I've been stabbed with ice picks."
